WILDWOOD, MO. - UPDATE: St. Louis County Police announced 37-year-old Raymond W. Ryan was taken into custody early Saturday morning at Manchester and Glencoe Road after a brief foot pursuit. No injuries were reported.
The original story follows below:
A five-county police chase ended in a wooded area of Wildwood Friday night.
The pursuit began in Callaway County, Missouri earlier in the day. The Callaway County Sheriff said they took a report of a sexual assault of a minor. A deputy on patrol at the time spotted the person of interest around 4 p.m. in the Fulton area with four kids inside his car.
Officials later identified the man as Raymond W. Ryan, 37, of Fulton.
The deputy attempted to pull over Ryan, but he fled to a rural area where one child was let out. He then proceeded to take off with the three remaining kids headed east and crossing into four other counties.
Around 6 p.m., Ryan reached the Wildwood area and ditched the Chrysler 300 he was driving. Ryan then fled into the woods and left the three kids in the car, prompting a manhunt.
Officers have yet to locate Ryan at time of reporting.
All four children were safely located and were placed into protective custody. Each of the children was under the age of 17.
According to police, the children were either related to Ryan or were allowed to be in his custody.
Late Friday evening, Callaway County issued a felony warrant without bond for Ryan's arrest. He faces Felony Resisting Arrest, four counts of Felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and various traffic charges.
Missouri State Highway Patrol monitored the situation from the air.
