National campaign aims to reduce overweight cats

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A national campaign takes aim at helping your feline friend shed a few extra pounds.

Purina Cat Chow has launched the "Why Weight?" program, which focuses on asking cat owners to take one minute and see if their cat has a healthy weight.

According to Purina, more than 46 million cats in the United States are overweight.

"Why Weight?" will allow cat owners to check their cat's weight in the obesity scale and give them a few ideas and tricks to combat the battle of the bulge.

In addition, Purina aims to have 100,000 pledges to help combat overweight cats. If the company meets that goal, then a donation of $50,000 donation will be made to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention.
