ST. LOUIS - Big bright changes in downtown St. Louis are taking place right now and it's impacting tens of thousands of people.
Some of these lights are already on Walnut and Market Streets. Organizers say this project is right on target. The goal is to have 2300 LED lights in downtown St. Louis.
The $4.3-million project is led by non-profit group Downtown STL Incorporated.
The project is privately funded by local and regional businesses.
The new lights have gun shot spotters to record gunshots and notify authorities in real time.
The current street lights give off an orange glow which often makes it tough to determine the color of objects on surveillance video.
The LED lights however, give off a white glow making it easier to see colors on surveillance video. Organizes would like to have all the lights up in downtown St. Louis by the end of this year.
