NORTH COUNTY - An officer with the North County Police Cooperative was injured Thursday night when a suspect ran over his leg.
Police said they were conducting a drug investigation on the 4200 block of Oakwood Avenue when an officer walked up to the man. The man then jumped into his own car and tried to drive off.
As he was driving away, he ran over the officer's leg. Police eventually caught back up with him about four miles away at the intersection of Riverview Boulevard and North Broadway.
The man, Wallace Simmons, was charged with one count of felony assault on a law enforcement officer. He is being held on a $150,000, cash-only bond.
The officer suffered moderate injuries. He was treated and released from the hospital.
