Nun heads to Texas to help immigrants

ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis nun is headed to El Paso, Texas to help those crossing the border.

Sister Sandra Straub with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet spent six years as a missionary in South America and says she feels called to help in this crisis. But she says this pastoral, not a political mission.

"I'm not going down there as a political anything. I'm going down there to be walking with these people who have suffered and walked miles or bused miles. And because I'm a Sister of St. Joseph which says we are for God and for all God's people and we're open to the neighbor," said Straub.

The sister says her stay is open-ended.

Another sister from St. Louis in her 80s has been volunteering in El Paso since Monday.
