Obama to tap Julian Castro for housing secretary

CHICAGO (AP) - President Barack Obama is preparing to boost the profile of an up-and-coming, young Hispanic Democrat by nominating San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro to become the nation's housing secretary.

In the process, Shaun Donovan, Obama's current housing chief gets a new title: budget director.

A White House official says Obama's expected to announce his latest Cabinet shuffle on Friday afternoon after he returns from an overnight trip to Chicago.

He's to be joined by Castro and Donovan. Both men are close to the president. Their profiles also will receive a significant boost from moving into the higher-profile positions.

The White House official who disclosed the nominations late Thursday would speak only on condition of anonymity before the pending personnel announcement by Obama.
