O'Fallon, Mo. home destroyed by fire

An O'Fallon, Missouri home is destroyed after an early morning fire, that may have been caused by a lightning strike.

O'FALLON, Mo. – An O'Fallon, Missouri home is destroyed after an early morning fire, that may have been caused by a lightning strike.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 300 block of William Clark Drive around 1:26 a.m. When they arrived the house was fully involved.

Nobody was home when the fire started. The home appears to be a total loss.

The First Alert Weather team looked at cloud to ground lightning strikes in the area late Wednesday night and has determined there was a lightning strike on William Clark Drive at 10:32 p.m. When a structure is hit by lightning it will often simmer and smolder for several hours before engulfing in flames.
