Part of Miss. River closes to recreational vessels

ST. LOUIS COUNTY – The U.S. Coast Guard has closed part of the upper Mississippi River to recreational vessel traffic in anticipation of rising flood water overnight.

The river closed at 4 p.m. between lock and Dam 27 in Granite City, Illinois and the Jefferson Barracks Bridge in St. Louis County.

Overnight, the Mississippi River is expected to reach 30 feet.

A spokesperson says the river should reopen to recreational vessels early next week.
