BELLEVILLE, Ill. - A Belleville man is behind bars after being charged with domestic violence.
Shortly after 10 p.m. July 22 the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department responded to a domestic violence call on the 900 block of Peony Drive in unincorporated Belleville.
The female victim reported that she had been bound by extension cords and clothing articles by her husband, identified as 33-year-old Robert Jones III, in the family's home. She was able to free herself from the restraints, left her residence and fled to a nearby house where she notified the police of the situation around a little after 10 p.m.
The victim also reported Jones covered the house in lighter fluid before she fled the house. The victim also reported that he held a knife to her throat and that her car was missing from the driveway.
When deputies arrived at the scene Jones was not inside, but they could smell a strong flammable odor coming from inside the residence. During a search, police found a firearm inside the house.
A couple hours later Jones turned himself in and was charged with attempted aggravated arson, aggravated restraint, invalid firearm, and domestic battery.
He is being held on $50,000 bond.
