Police cruiser knocks light pole into south city home

ST. LOUIS - A south St. Louis family received a rude awakening Tuesday morning after a police cruiser was knocked into a light pole, sending it crashing into the family's home.

The accident happened around 3:50 a.m. near the intersection of Keokuk Street and Giles Avenue.

A police officer was traveling eastbound on Keokuk when he stopped at the intersection. As he proceeded through the intersection, the police officer's vehicle was struck by a pickup truck heading southbound on Giles.

The police vehicle slammed into a light pole, which fell onto a nearby residence.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck did not have a stop sign in front of him, but police suspect speed may have been involved in the collision.
