AFFTON, MO. - St. Louis County police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Affton.
Police were called to the 7700 block of Harlan Street around 6:35 a.m. October 1 for a “call for police.”
Once on scene, officers tried to knock on the front door and no one answered. Officers looked through the front window to find a man approaching the door with a handgun in one hand and a sword in the other.
The suspect opened the door and released a dog as officers stepped back. He then exited the home and went on the porch while holding the weapons. Officers asked him to drop his weapons and he did not comply.
One officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect several times. The suspect was transported to a hospital where he died 5 days after being shot.
The officer who fired his weapon has been with the department for eight years.
No officers were injured.
An autopsy has been completed and officials have identified the man as 38-year-old Joshua Lanflisi.
The incident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons, but police say this appears to be a case of "suicide by cop." According to a press release, a suicide note written in marker was found on the man's bathroom mirror. Police also say Lanflishi was the person who called 911 that morning.
