PrideFest lights up downtown STL

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Thousands of people are in downtown St. Louis for the most colorful weekend of the year, PrideFest. But a few of them stepped away from the party for a special ceremony at City Hall.

Last year the talk of PrideFest was the Supreme Court striking down the Defense of Marriage Act paving the way for same-sex couples to marry. This year, the talk is four same-sex couples married in Mayor Francis Slay's office earlier this week.

One of the highlights for more than a dozen couples Saturday was this commitment ceremony in the City Hall Rotunda. Richard Hooper and his partner drove from Hayti to be a part of this.

Coordinator Debbie Smith said she wants to see this ceremony carry some legal weight next year.
