Protesters block interstate, gather in Berkeley

ST. LOUIS COUNTY -- Wednesday night, dozens of people marched on Interstate 170 and through the streets of Berkeley after a deadly, police-involved shooting of an 18-year-old man.

The protesters shut down the interstate for a brief time before marching to the Mobil gas station where Antonio Martin was shot and killed Tuesday night.

NewsChannel 5 crews saw some people trying to get into a store front near the gas station during the protests. Other protesters were not happy and tried to stop the group. Our crews did hear gunshots during the confrontation.

At least one person has been arrested.

As the situation escalated, protesters surrounded our news crews and told them to leave the scene. They did leave when they felt threatened.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar says Martin was armed with a loaded handgun, which he pointed at the officer before Tuesday night's shooting. The incident was captured by multiple surveillance cameras.
