Riders begin 'cycle across Ill.'

(KSDK) – Thursday morning, riders took off for Cycle across Illinois.

The event raises money for Illinois families of law enforcement officers who've died in the line of duty.
The Mississippi River will played a role in the event Thursday morning as riders dipped their back tire into the river before taking off.
When they get to Chicago, they'll dip their front tire into Lake Michigan.

There will be 60 riders from all over the state, including five Illinois State Troopers and three Granite City police officers.
Along the way, they'll be meeting with surviving families and honor fallen officers across the state. Illinois Concerns of Police Survivors is holding the event.

The cyclists began their journey to Chicago around 7 a.m.
