Road closures this weekend for Go! races

ST. LOUIS – This weekend 25,000 runners will hit the pavement and log miles during 10 events at the 14th annual Go! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend.

The event is held each year in April, and last year attracted runners from 48 states and 10 countries.

Even if you don't consider yourself to be a runner, there's probably an event for you. The fitness weekend includes a marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 5K run/walk, children's fun runs and even a mature mile for participants over the age of 60.

The weekend kicks off with the Health & Fitness Expo at Chaifetz Arena from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, where runners will pickup their packets and have an opportunity to browse vendor booths. The Expo is free and is expected to attract more than 30,000 visitors.

8 a.m.: 5K run/walk in Forest Park
9:15 a.m.: Go! St. Louis Read, Right and Run Marathon
10:45 a.m.: Children's fun runs
11:15 a.m.: Mature mile

7 a.m.: The endurance events will kick off at Soldier's Memorial in downtown St. Louis. Approximately 15,000 marathon, half marathon, and marathon relay runners will line up at Market and 15th streets and head on 26 or 13.1 mile runs. The race comes full circle, ending at Soldier's Memorial.

There will be road closures beginning at 7 a.m. throughout St. Louis to accommodate the runners:
Tucker between Olive & Chouteau
Market Street between Broadway &Compton
Chestnut between Tucker & 18th Street
Pine between Tucker & 14th Street
13th Street between Market & Pine
14th Street between Market & Pine
15th Street between Market & Pine
17th Street between Market & Chestnut
18th Street between Market & Chestnut
Olive between Tucker & Compton

Most streets will reopen around 4 p.m. Sunday.

MetroBus will also change routes due to the marathon events. The following routes will be rerouted to the MetroLink Convention Center station from the beginning of service until 9 a.m.:

Riders on the following routes should build extra time into their commute on the following MetroBus routes:

Drivers who plan to take Interstate 64 downtown should take the Jefferson Street or 14th Street exits. Many of the exits after will be closed. Anyone heading downtown from Illinois on Interstates 55, 70, or 64 should take I-70 west to Tucker Boulevard, exit 249B.

Many of the downtown parking garages will offer special discount pricing for parking on race day. The fees will vary, but many will offer a $5 flat fee.

MetroLink is also a quick way to get in and out of downtown before and after the race. Visit Metro's website to find the station closest to you. Race organizers suggest using the Civic Center Station (Scottrade) to access the race. The stop is approximately two blocks from the start/finish line.

Regardless of your method of transportation, be sure to leave early. Runners should be in their assigned corral by 6:40 a.m.

Backpacks, duffle bags, oversized purses, and luggage are not allowed within the start/finish line perimeters or in the gear check area. Any runner who wishes to check a bag is required to use the clear Go! St. Louis-issued bag received at the Expo, and each bag must have a race number tag attached.

Bags are also prohibited from the start line corrals. Only registered runners with race numbers will be allowed inside the start line corrals.

Race officials want to remind participants and spectators to call 911 or notify law enforcement personnel of any suspicious person, object, or vehicle along or near the race course. Personal items, backpacks, packages, and clothes will not be allowed along or near the race route.
