Ryan Ferguson, family to hold news conference

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KSDK) – Ryan Ferguson, his family, and attorney, Kathleen Zellner, are expected to host a news conference Tuesday evening at the Tiger Hotel in Columbia, Mo.

On Tuesday afternoon, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced he will not re-try Ferguson, whose murder conviction was overturned earlier this month.

Ferguson had been convicted in the 2001 murder of Kent Heitholt, the sports editor at the Columbia Daily Tribune. He appealed the conviction, and this month the appeals panel agreed Ferguson did not receive a fair trial because the prosecutor's office withheld evidence from defense attorneys.

The news conference was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., but that time has been pushed back to 7 p.m.. NewsChannel 5 has crews in Jefferson City and Columbia, and will live stream the news conference right here on KSDK.com.
