Sewage forces people from St. Ann apartments

ST. ANN, Mo. (KSDK) - Dozens of people are hoping to get back into their apartments today after they were kicked out on short notice.

The city of St. Ann condemned two apartment buildings at the Colonial Apartments complex on Geraldine Avenue – one for sewer problems, the other for electrical problems.

Residents say they were given only about an hour to grab what they could and get out.

Others came home from work late Monday night to find they were locked out.

News Channel Five has, so far, been unable to reach anyone with the management company. But, residents say only a few were given hotel rooms for the night.

And many say they've complained about the sewer problem for the last month and nothing was done.

"She pretty much told me, 'Oh, go get some air fresheners or some candles,'" says Mario Brooks of the response to his complaints he received from the complex manager.

"My head is starting to hurt because I'm inhaling this feces smell," says Brooks.

St. Ann Police are patrolling the area in an effort to prevent looting.

Residents say they were promised they would be out of their apartments for less than 24 hours.
