St. Louis County to feed 2,000 children per day

ST. LOUIS COUNTY - The St. Louis County Human Services Department is kicking of its Summer Food Program Monday. The program provides breakfast and lunch to students through partner agencies such as churches, day camps and community centers.

The program will run through mid-August and plans to provide 2,000 meals per day.

“Hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation,” County Executive Steve Stenger said. “When school is out, many kids no longer have access to school meals and family budgets are often stretched to the breaking point.”

The free meals are part of a national program funded through the United States Department of Agriculture.
