St. Louis picked for popular hot dog contest qualifying event

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – The road to the one of the most popular eating contests in the country goes through St. Louis.

Busch Stadium will be the site of a qualifying event for Nathan's Famous International hot dog eating championship, which takes place annually on the Fourth of July in Coney Island, Brooklyn.

This is the first time the contest will take place in St. Louis, Mo., and it is set for May 17, prior to the St. Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves game at 1:15 p.m.

The top man and woman of the qualifying event will advance to the finals of the eating competition in New York.

A number of other cities will host qualifying events, such as, Las Vegas, Nev., Houston, Texas, Charlotte, N.C., Bloomindale, Ill., Savannah, Ga., Cleveland, Ohio.
