
KSDK -- Friends, family and co-workers will remember the life a Maplewood firefighter who was gunned down while responding to a car fire Monday morning in Maplewood.
The visitation for Ryan Hummert will be Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the J.B. Smith Funeral Home at 7456 Manchester in Maplewood, Missouri 63143.
Funeral services for Hummert will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 2934 Marshall Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri 63143. A procession will follow to Sunset Cemetery at Gravois and Laclede Station Road in Affton, Missouri.
A Webster Groves gas station will also honor Hummert by donating five cents of every gallon of gas pumped on Thursday to Backstoppers in memory of all fire fighters and police officers. The Sullins Phillips 66 is at 305 E. Kirkham.
People who want to help the Hummert family can donate money to BackStoppers at 10411 Clayton Road, Suite 5, in St. Louis, Missouri 63131.
Hummert and two police officers, Sgt. Mike Martin and Ofc. Adam Fite, were shot on Zephyr Place, off of Big Bend. Sgt. Martin was treated at a hospital and released. Ofc. Fite was shot in the chest and hospitalized.
St. Louis County police believe the shooter then set fire to his home across the street from the scene of the vehicle fire.
Police found the body of the suspect, Mark J. Knobbe, 52, and three long guns in the rubble of the burned out home.
