KSDK -- It was ten years ago that St. Louis said goodbye to a local landmark.
The St. Louis Arena, aka "The Checkerdome" or "The Old Barn," was built in Dogtown in 1929 to initially serve as a home for the National Dairy Show.
The Blues hockey team moved into the building in 1967 after much-needed renovations, and played there until 1994, when it moved to the Scottrade Center.
The arena was given its Checkerdome moniker after Ralston Purina bought the Blues in 1977.
