
KSDK -- St. Louis native and Olympic gold medalist Lori Chalpuny has signed with the St. Louis Athletica as the team readies for the inaugural season of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league.
At present, Chalupny is in Portugal to represent the United States in the Algarve Cup, with Athletica teammates Hope Solo and Angie Woznuk. The trio joined Athletica in September 2008 as part of the WPS National Team player pool allocation.
Chalupny was recently named co-captain of the US Women's National Team and has 88 caps to her credit.
Chalupny is a graduate of Nerinx Hall High School in Webster Groves. She played collegiately at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and she will return to UNC to finish her undergraduate degree.
