KSDK -- It is being called "Missouri's Largest Lost and Found."
Tuesday morning, Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel is set to open up a number of recently acquired safe deposit boxes in Jefferson City.
This is to let Missourians know they may have some money or other items out there that they'd forgotten about or didn't know they had!
The state currently has more than $550 million worth of unclaimed assets, including some that could belong to you or someone you know.
When a business or a lending institution can't get into contact with an account holder, or customer, for a period of five years or more, state law requires them to turn that person's unclaimed assets over to the state.
So currently, one in 10 Missourians has assets being held by the state's unclaimed property division.
Right now, the state is holding some 162 million dollars worth of unclaimed property from right here in the St. Louis area alone.
In many cases people don't realize that they haven't collected all their assets when they move, or create a new insurance, or bank account.
Click here to see if you have unclaimed property and type your name into the treasurer's web site, or you can call the treasurer's office at: (573) 751-0123.
