KSDK -- The City of Vandalia signed a development agreement with a Michigan-based firm to construct a two million square-foot sports and entertainment complex, with a 9,000-seat arena will be at the center of the development.
The complex will also accommodate restaurants, a surf wave pool, daycare and fitness facilities, tennis, basketball, hockey, a family fun center, soccer, an IMAX theatre, 300-room hotel, a bicycle manufacturing operation, and retail sites.
The complex will be built on 150 acres near Exit 61 on Interstate 70.
The project will cost an estimated $300 million and provided nearly 900 full-time jobs to the region, along with 2,000 construction jobs.
Construction could start as early as spring of next year and could open three years after that.
