CHON BURI, Thailand (NBC) -- The annual buffalo race was held Sunday in Thailand.
The local authorities said that the annual event, which is held in the town of Chon Buri, is intended to preserve the long held tradition and to promote the use of water buffalos in farming.
The buffalo race was originally intended as an act of praise to the animals that Thais believe help bring about good harvests for local farmers.
The buffalo race was crowded with locals and tourists wanting to witness it first hand.
