KSDK -- A man who tried to flee the scene of a bank robbery in Florissant on a bicycle did not make it far before police caught up with him.
The Commercial Bank at 400 West Washington was robbed this afternoon. The suspect, a 24 year-old Hazelwood resident, was located and arrested within a few minutes of the robbery.
Police said the suspect entered the bank around 12:11 PM passing a note to a teller announcing the hold-up and inferring he had a gun. The suspect took the money and left the bank. No one was hurt.
A witness reported seeing a person fitting the suspect's description fleeing the area on a bicycle, southbound on N. St. Charles into a residential area. Florissant officers responding to the area were able to locate the suspect near Duchesne Park. The suspect was taken into custody and the stolen money was found nearby.
The suspect remains in custody. Warrants are being sought for first degree robbery.
