KSDK -- Authorities said a woman caused a brief scare at the Maplewood Police Department this afternoon when she walked in with a grenade and set it on the counter.

According to Maplewood Police Lt. Mark Griffin, the 89-year-old woman entered the building just after noon with the grenade in a plastic bag. She told police that her husband, who is deceased, brought it back from World War Two in 1941 and she wanted to dispose of it.

The police department was evacuated and the bomb squad was called because police believed the grenade was active. The bomb squad disposed of the grenade.

No one was hurt and the incident was over about 90 minutes after it began.
