KSDK-- A St. Jacob, Illinois man who biked more than halfway across the country is safe at home.

Tom King spent the summer riding from Seattle, Washington to St. Jacob in honor of Caleb Zarzecki, a Triad High School student who lost his battle with cancer last summer.

King, a Collinsville Middle School teacher and coach, says he met many generous people during his journey. Money raised will go to a memorial scholarship fund in Caleb Zarzecki's name.

King was a friend of Caleb's and says he was inspired by Caleb's courage and determination.

"This whole ride has been a journey of faith and healing," King said. "As hard as it was physically, as I told my wife at least I am able to control the pain and suffering. If I wanted to stop, I could stop and get off and the pain would go away temporarily.

Dozens of people turned out in St. Jacob on Sunday to welcome King home.
