Actor Danny Glover joined St. Louis Casino workers in a rally outside Lumiere Place.
They are celebrating a National Labor Relations Board ruling against Pinnacle Entertainment. The board ruled in favor of casino workers and told their employer Pinnacle Enterainment to either recognize the union, Local 74 Workers United, or face civil prosecution.
Lynn Handler, Vice President & Corporate Counsel for Pinnacle Entertainment, released a statement regarding the preliminary move by the NLRB.
"Pinnacle has strong pro-union credentials in Missouri. We built the $507 million Lumière Place with 100% union labor on general construction. We are currently building River City with a union labor force. We signed a neutrality agreement with Local 74 more than a year before Lumière Place was even open for business. In every way, we have honored our commitments and been a friend to organized labor. But our commitment to our employees always comes first. Some of our employees chose Local 74 to represent them, but Local 74 then became embroiled in a very public and very messy national divorce within the union leadership. In short, the local became a different organization--one our employees did not have the opportunity to vote for. We then started a process that put this matter before the National Labor Relations Board. We are very pleased that the union chose to withdraw its complaint about HoteLumière rather than have the NLRB reject it.
This week's preliminary move by the NLRB regarding the President Casino and Lumière Place is nothing more than the finding by the NLRB that there is an issue to be resolved. We look forward to all the facts coming out as this process moves forward. In the meantime, we will continue to proceed out of respect for our employees and their choices."
