
KSDK -- Four people from Cahokia, three of them village trustees, have been charged with fraud in connection to the April Municipal Election.
St. Clair County State's Attorney Bob Haida said the charges stem from a scheme involving the absentee voting process in the April election.
"I commend the Cahokia Police Department for conducting a thorough and expansive investigation," said Haida. "The department expended hundreds of hours in this investigation."
Village Trustee Kyle Johnson is charged with 35 counts of Vote
Fraud. 25 counts involve Class 3 Election Code violations and
10 counts involve Class 4 Election Code violations.
Village Trustee Trevon Tompkin is charged with thirty-three 33 counts of vote fraud. 24 counts involve Class 3 Election Code violations and nine counts involve Class 4 Election Code violations.
Village employee William Brown is charged with 41 counts of vote fraud. 32 counts involve Class 3 Election Code violations and nine counts involve Class 4 Election Code Violations.
Village employee Kevin Wiggins is charged with 82 counts of vote fraud. 51 counts involve Class 3 Election Code violations and 31 counts involve Class 4 Election Code violations.
All four were ordered to appear in court on Wednesday, September 23 at 1:00 p.m.
"The magnitude is amazing. So we will have to go forward if what I heard is true. The charges are litterally amazing," said Cahokia Mayor Frank Bergman.
The Class 3 Felonies are punishable by two to five years in the penitentiary or 24 months probation. The Class 4 Felonies are punishable by one to three years in the penitentiary or 24
months probation. Additionally, a conviction of either charge will result in loss of public employment/public office.
