
COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Congressman John Shimkus has been named to an advisory board for the United States Military Academy at West Point
The Collinsville Republican is a graduate of the school. He received a bachelor's degree in science there.
His position on the school's board of visitors means he'll help advise on some issues at the academy.
The board has up to 15 members. The rules are outlined by federal law.
His first meeting will be Oct. 23.
