KSDK -- St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch says it's a matter of public safety. McCulloch and dozens of other law enforcement and emergency officials are urging voters to approve Proposition E-911.
The ballot measure is a proposed tax hike it would raise $16 million and officials say it would be used to replace aging emergency equipment.
For starters, supporters say the money would be used to update 9-1-1 systems so that cell phone users could be easily located.
The proposal would increase sales taxes by one-tenth of one-percent a penny on every $10 spent.
A county-wide radio system would allow first responders to communicate throughout the county on compatible systems.
And the current emergency siren system would be replaced.
The election is Tuesday, November 3.
