Cell phone video from NewsChannel 5 viewer V. Smith showed the vehicle upside down and on fire. As the person went by the vehicle, it burst into flames.
Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesperson Al Nothum said a truck driver struck a guardrail, causing it to overturn. Several people stopped, got out of their cars and pulled the truck driver to safety. Shortly afterwards, the burning truck exploded.
One of those involved in the rescue was Tim O'Hara who works at Plaza Motors Collision Repair in north st. Louis county.
O'Hara said he didn't feel like a hero; he was just doing what was right.
The driver had minor injuries and was expected to recover.
