KSDK -- There were some scary moments for Brooklyn police officers Wednesday morning, who say they had to fire shots at a stolen vehicle they followed into the garage at Lumiere Casino after the woman behind the wheel tried to run one of them over.

"We only draw weapons in the event we feel out life is in jeopardy or someone else's life is in jeopardy. Based on this scenario, my partner's life, I felt, was in great danger and so I drew my weapon based on the scenario of that vehicle being used as a weapon to strike him," said Det. Sgt. Paris Johnson.

It was just before seven in the morning when he and his partner spotted a car speeding and running stop signs in Brooklyn.  He said that when they attempted to make a traffic stop, the car kept going toward St. Louis and into Lumiere's garage.

That's when Johnson said his partner got out of the car to stop the 34-year-old woman, who has not yet been named.

He explained that she then tried to run over the other officer, so both men fired shots at her tires to get her to stop.

"I definitely learned that. it doesn't matter what time of day when you are on patrol because this was very early in the morning it was during rush hour traffic, kids are off to school and I'm just grateful that the officer myself and the suspect were not injured we were able to ascertain her without any injury so that was a great, great day," Det. Johnson added.

The woman was eventually arrested three blocks away as she tried to hop a fence.  The woman remains in the custody of the Brooklyn Police Department.

She is expected to face charges in St. Louis City, Brooklyn and Granite City, where the car she was supposedly driving was reported stolen.
