KSDK -- Beginning this weekend, property owners in St. Louis City will receive their 2009 personal property and real-estate tax assessments.

The bills are due on or before December 31. Bills not paid before the deadline will be subject to penalties and interest beginning January 1, 2010.

The St. Louis City Collector of Revenue's Office reports a decrease in the number of bills that will be mailed, due in part to a large number of houses that have recently refinanced. More than 220,000 tax bill notices are going out this year.

Property tax bills can be paid one of five ways:

1. Paying by phone, 1-800-2PAYTAX;
2. Using the online payment system at www.officialpayments.com;
3. Via mail using the enclosed return envelope;
4. In person at Room 109 of City Hall, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.;
5. By visiting one of six satellite bank locations to make the payment.

The satellite bank locations are:

--Bank of America, 9075 Goodfellow Blvd.
--Bank of America, 4301 Hampton Ave.
--Gateway National Bank, 3412 Union Blvd.
--National City Bank, 4131 South Grand Blvd.
--Royal Bank, 3534 Watson Rd.
--Southwest Bank, 2301 S. Kingshighway Blvd.

St. Louis City residents with questions on their bill can call the Property Tax Department at 314-622-4106.
