Former Jefferson County sheriff passes away

KSDK -- NewsChannel 5 has learned that Walter "Buck" Buerger has died. The former Jefferson County sheriff passed away Sunday. He was 83.

Buerger served as sheriff from 1964 to 1992.

Buerger played Triple-A baseball for the New York Yankees and Boston Braves from 1942 to 1954. He married Sue Carol Bridges in 1955.

Visitation and funeral services will take place next week at the Hillsboro Civic Center. The visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 24, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 25.

He will be buried at Hillsboro Cemetery.
