KSDK -- Jurors were deciding the punishment for Mark Brooks, a former Missouri National Guard member, who was on trial in Jefferson County for rape and kidnapping.

Brooks, of Madison, Illinois, faces the possibility of life in prison.

Brooks was charged with three counts of forcible rape, two counts of forcible sodomy, one count of kidnapping, and one count of felonious restraint, for three incidents between November 2001 and March 2002. Brooks was formally charged on April, 9, 2002.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Captain Ralph Brown said Brooks raped two 18-year-old girls in November and December 2001. Brown said in both cases, Brooks raped the women after getting into a vehicle with them.

The second incident allegedly took place in DeSoto, Missouri.

Brooks was jailed in Illinois in 2007 on an armed violence conviction when authorities in Jefferson County, Missouri learned Brooks was about to be released. The day he was scheduled to be freed, Jefferson County investigators took him to Missouri to face the rape charges.
