Deshawn Barnes charged in shooting of five-year-old girl

KSDK -- St. Clair County prosecutors charged a 17-year-old with the shooting of a five-year-old girl.

Illinois State Police Lieutenant James Morrisey said Deshawn D. Barnes, of East St. Louis, was charged with armed violence and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Investigators said the girl was shot in the neck in the 1500 block of Broadway on Tuesday.

Police said they arrested Barnes after he was spotted running from the scene.

Barnes was jailed and bond was set at $500,000.

The victim was hospitalized in stable condition.
