KSDK -- The Big Bend overpass is opening eight days ahead of schedule.
Road crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation spent most of Friday putting the final touches on the bridge, including striping and adding fresh asphalt.
Big Bend is the second to last bridge to open before the December 7 finish for the entire I-64 Project. The Clayton overpass opens in about two weeks.
Business owners say they are excited that the bridge connecting north and south will be open. MoDOT chief engineer Ed Hassinger says before the closure, as many as 27,000 vehicles crossed over the Big Bend Bridge on a daily basis. And it has been a two year test of patience.
The countdown is on for the reopening of the new I-64.
