KSDK -- Employees at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville will be paid this December, according to a report in the Belleville News-Democrat, but funds are looking short for the new year.
SIU President Glenn Poshard sent out a memo to all employees Tuesday alerting them that the state has paid $15.5 million of the $115 million it owes the university system.
Fifty-five percent of the school's budget is derived from state funds. That money has not been paid out since the start of the 2009 fiscal year. The Edwardsville campus typically receives about $30 million from the state government each year.
Despite the government reimbursement, SIUE's $43 million monthly payroll will be short $16.5 million for January.
