KSDK -- Detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department apprehended a murder suspect late Wednesday afternoon. A tipster contacted authorities following a media report.
Illinois State Police said the tipster saw a 6 p.m. news report detailing their search for 39-year-old David Lockridge, wanted for the stabbing death of a 44-year-old man. That tipster saw Lockridge a few minutes later in front of a store at the intersection of N. Grand Boulevard and Montgomery Street. Police were contacted and arrested Lockridge after a brief foot pursuit.
Lockridge is accused of killing Dickerson at a home in the 1300 block of North 25th Street in East St. Louis on August 24.
The St. Clair State's Attorney's Office charged Lockridge with one count of first-degree murder earlier Wednesday.
Lockridge remains in jail in St. Louis pending extradition to St. Clair County.
