KSDK -- While many shoppers were ready to buy on Thanksgiving, a local family was getting ready to give. A Godfrey family spent Thanksgiving turning their house into a Christmas display with more than 80 thousand lights.

"Thanksgiving morning is pretty much a wiring party and everyone comes out and we have the turkey and ham and then we try to work it out by going out and wiring a bunch of lights," said Jason Adams.

There is lots of work to string lights on a Christmas tree, reindeer in the yards, snowflakes covering the house, and just about anywhere in sight.

"Just in the driveway we have 33 thousand lights and there is about 80 thousand lights total," said Jason Adams.

For the Adams family, a Christmas display is about raising money for charities and putting smiles on the faces of kids.
Decorating takes about a month, but the payoff is worth it according to some of the youngest helpers who say their friends love it.

"They say hey your house is the best and how many lights do you have, it's so cool," said Natalie Adams.

The lights are expected to be on starting Friday through Christmas. Donations are encouraged to raise money for the Crisis Food Center and the Alton Area Animal Aid Association. The home is located at 1504 Paris Drive in Godfrey.
