Traffic trends take shape two months after new I-64 opening

KSDK -- The new Interstate 64 has been open for almost two months, and with the holidays over, MoDOT traffic engineers have noticed some traffic trends.

Morning Peak Hours (5 a.m. to 9 a.m.)

The worst traffic time is between 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m.

I-70 (I-270 to downtown) down 10%, except for westbound between Poplar Street Bridge and Goodfellow is up 15%

I-64 trends:

West of I-270 is up 5%

I-270 to I-170 is up double to triple compared to 2009, but
compared to 2007 it is up 10 % in the eastbound direction and
up 30 % in the westbound

I-170 to Kingshighway is up 50-100% compared to 2007
Kingshighway to Poplar Street Bridge is up double to triple
compared to 2009 volumes but it is down 10% compared to 2007

Volumes in the eastbound direction and about the same as 2007 

I-44 (I-270 to I-55) is up 15%

I-270 (I-64 to I-44) is up 20-30 % in the northbound direction and down 20 % in the southbound direction

I-170 (I-70 to I-64) is up 50-60%.

Evening Peak Hours (3 p.m. to 7 p.m.)

The worst hour for traffic is 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

I-70 (I-270-downtown) is down 10%, except for westbound between Poplar Street Bridge and Goodfellow is up 5%

I-64:
West of I-270 is up 5-10%
I-270 to I-170 is up 40% from 2009 volumes; westbound is up 5% and eastbound is down 15% compared to 2007 volumes
I-170 to Kingshighway is up 75% in the westbound direction and down 10% in the eastbound direction compared to 2007 volumes
Kingshighway to the Poplar Street Bridge is up double to triple
in the westbound direction and up 5% in the eastbound direction compared to 2009; but it is down 5% compared to 2007 volumes
 
I-44 (I-270 to I-55) is down 15-30%, except for westbound between Laclede Station and I-270 is up 10%

I-270 (I-64 to I-44) is up 10% in the northbound direction and about the same in the southbound direction

I-170 (I-70 to I-64) is up 15%.
