KSDK -- Road crews from the Illinois Department of Transportation have been out all day clearing the interstates and secondary roads, but the wind is creating some problems.

An IDOT spokesperson said crews clearing interstates Tuesday morning had to be moved to roads in northwestern Madison County because of blowing snow. There was also blowing snow on Interstate 270.

Side streets in Collinsville were still messy as the snow stopped falling around 6:00 a.m.

IDOT has 180 trucks on the road working to clear the roads.

Illinois State Trooper Mike Link said troopers had responded to about six crashes overnight and had to pull about a dozen drivers out of ditches.

Link advised drivers to stay off the roads as long as they can this morning to give IDOT crews a chance to clear them first.
