KSDK -- The father of a Belleville toddler has been awarded custody of her after she survived a brutal beating that sent her to the hospital.
Edward Runyon's attorney, Bill Norton, said the St. Clair County judge awarded his client full custody on Friday morning, but Amanda Runyon's mother will be allowed to have supervised visits every other weekend.
Amanda spent two weeks in the hospital after investigators said she was beaten by the mother's boyfriend. Her injuries were so severe the doctors had to remove part of her intestine.
Norton said the judge also denied Amanda's mother's attorney's request for an appointed guardian for Amanda. The judge also denied the request for a trust fund to be set up using money family friends raised to help pay for medical bills and other expenses.
