Two pedestrians were hit while walking across the Poplar Street Bridge. One man was killed.
St. Louis (KSDK) - The man accused of killing a pedestrian and seriously injuring another while fleeing police could be charged with reckless homicide this week.
NewsChannel 5 has confirmed with Illinois State Police that Brandon Garcia, 26, was at a St. Louis bar before he rammed a police cruiser early Sunday morning at Memorial Drive and Market Street and then hit the pedestrians on the Poplar Street Bridge between Missouri and Illinois.
Police haven't released the name of the bar, but they do say Garcia's blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.
Garcia was stopped by Illinois state police at Route 3 and Eighth Street in East St. Louis. He was taken to the St. Clair County jail. During questioning Garcia admitted to being in the country illegally. He has been charged with Driving Under the Influence.
Police also say the pedestrians may have been walking on the bridge because they didn't have a car.
Elvira Secic is being treated for a serious leg wound. Daunte Simmons was thrown from the bridge and died.
