Belleville, IL (KSDK) - Belleville police are looking for a man who attempted to carjack a woman in the parking lot of Eckert's.

Police responded to the parking lot of Eckert's just before 4 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a call about a disturbance between a man and woman.

When officers arrived, the woman told them the unidentified man had tried to steal her car.

After the suspect attempted to carjack the woman, he jumped into a truck belonging to an employee of Eckert's and tried to leave the area. He was unsuccessful at stealing that truck, and fled into a wooded area south of Illinois Route 15.

Belleville police and the St. Clair County Sheriff Department's K-9 unit responded. Police used K-9 and thermal imaging to try to find the suspect, but attempts were unsuccessful.

The suspect is described as a white man between 40 and 50-years-old with a heavy build, large "beer belly" and has brown to reddish facial hair.

He was last seen wearing no shirt, blue sweatpants, rubber boots and a bandana on his head.

Detectives are seeking anyone who saw the suspect in the area of Eckert's Wednesday afternoon. Anyone with information should call the Belleville Police Department.
