Madison, IL (KSDK) - St. Louis race enthusiasts will gather Friday night at Gateway Motorsports Park to fight dangerous driving.

The effort comes almost exactly one month after 17-year-old Tianna Reed was killed in an illegal drag race.

Since then, police have stepped up efforts to curb the problem, even barricading a portion of Leonore K. Sullivan Boulevard one night to prevent racing.

The gates open at 7 p.m. and is open to licensed drivers 16-years-old and up who want to drag race or drift on a supervised, nationally sanctioned drag strip.

It's what the owner calls a great alternative to expensive speeding tickets or a deadly accident.

Barring any weather delays, the drifting starts at 8 p.m. and the drag racing begins at 9 p.m.

It's $15 to watch and $25 to drift or hit the drag strip.
