St. Louis (KSDK) - One of the survivors of last week's deadly crash on Interstate 64 has released a statement.

One road worker was killed and hurt three others after a driver ran into their construction vehicle near Fairview Heights.

Adam Evans, one of the injured workers, released the following statement:
"My wife, Mandy, and I would like to first thank everyone who has offered their help and support of our family. Tuesday started off like any other day - I kissed my wife and daughter good-by and went off to work. I guess I'm lucky that I got to see them again.

"My friend, Dennis Beard, also said good-bye to his family and went to work. He did not come home. I lost a friend and a brother laborer that day. He was a good man, a good husband, and a good father.

"The events of Tuesday, May 22nd, have changed the lives of many people, including those of us who were hurt, and the family, friends and loved ones of Dennis. Dennis did not have to die.

"Please, please, when you see the signs marking a construction zone, when you see us out there on the roads and highways, slow down. Hang up the phone and pay attention. Your actions as you drive through work zones can take a life, and change lives forever, including your own.

"Mandy and I appreciate everyone's concern. We ask however that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."
