St. Louis (KSDK) - Heather Burton spent her eighth birthday at St. Louis Children's Hospital after she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
Fast forward 31 years, and Heather celebrated her 39th birthday Thursday at Barnes-Jewish Hospital where she's recovering from a kidney and pancreas transplant.
The new pancreas cured her diabetes.
She celebrated by eating a little birthday cake.
Heather is expected to be released from the hospital Saturday.
